They are able to implement a long-term approach to organizational planning that allows their organizations to make long-term improvements and profitable investments. A third characteristic of good leaders is the ability to take accurate assessment of the relative strengths and weaknesses of others as well as of themselves and to delegate authority in the manner most appropriate to those relative strengths and weaknesses. That requires the ability to evaluate fundamental areas of business management skills and to make definitive decisions about assigning responsibilities to those most capable of achieving success. In that regard, good leaders must also be their own most honest critics to avoid confusing their authority with their ability. Good leaders must know their limits and they must be able to trust allowing others the authority to make decisions based on their talents and abilities in specific areas.

In those circumstances, the likelihood of intra-organizational conflict increases tremendously along with the potential for detrimental consequences of those conflicts. Even in the absence of acute conflicts, non-uniform organizational cultures decrease organizational operational and administrative efficiency. By contrast, high quality organizational leadership allows the entire organization to function more smoothly, especially in the realm of intra-organizational component communication, collaboration, and cooperation. Ultimately, to maximize the success of their organizations, good leadership requires that leaders be effective communicators, that they be capable strategists, and that they be able to accurately and honestly recognize both relative strengths and weaknesses in others as well as in themselves.
